It's COLD outside!

So, I need some advice. I am not a winter girl...or better, I'm not a cold weather girl. I love the warm breezes and hot sun rays of summer. It truly makes me happy to the core to walk outside and feel the heat seep into my bones. I even like the 'cooking' sensation of getting into a stifling hot car (although I only like it for the first 10 seconds or so and then the air comes on).

The weather has turned colder today...and the annual sadness of the end of the heat wave has come. It's not that I'm depressed, but I'm truly saddened that it has turned cold. I love the Fall for its colorful trees, General Conference, Halloween, pumpkins, corn mazes and Thanksgiving...but I also dread it because it means that harsh winter chills are fast approaching. I was thinking this morning that maybe why I dread winter is that there is nothing I look forward to doing in the winter (beyond the Christmas holiday and caroling, of course). I love summer because it means I can go hiking, camping, have water fights, sit in the sun, smother in my car for 10 seconds, and so forth. I love being outside! So, maybe I need something to look forward to in the winter months. Besides hot chocolate, what is there to love about being cold? I thought that there might be someone who could give me some ideas.

I absolutely LOVE the winter! I think that whatever the season there should be something that you look forward to doing. For me this would be snowboarding, fourwheeling, snow mobiling, and wrapping up in my blanket in my sweats and reading a good book or watching a good movie. You need to try different winter activities to decide if there is something you enjoy in the cold. When it snows and the slopes open, I will take you snowboarding. It is an amazing activity because I feel like I can just glide anywhere I want. It's a wonderful and exilirating feeling!

Snow does tend to restrict my activities in the wintertime. I'm never a fan of outdoor winter sports for two reasons: 1) I'm clumsy, and 2) you have to bring a lot of expensive equipment (which translates into a lot of dressing/prep time, followed by undressing, thawing, and drying time).

This is another reason I like running. You can run at a moment's notice for free.

It suddenly got SO cold outside! This morning Thad had to turn on our furnace for the first time this cold season, and I commented to him how sad I was about it.

I too am a warm weather body. I wasn't so effected by the cold until I spent two years in the glorious, tropical Philippines, where I think the coldest it ever got was about 70 degrees. Now I can't stand the cold!!

I don't like winter activities (as a rule) due to the cold itself!! Brrr!! I DO like snowboarding, but I wear about 14 layers of clothing when I go. People are often excited about snowball fights in the winter, but I don't think they really think it through, 'cuz at some point you're gonna get hit in the face, and that snowball is cold, buddy!!

BRRRR!!! Cold Bad!! Hot Good!!

What are you guys (meaning Kendra and Jinx)talking about?! There are some great things to do outside in the winter -- snowshoeing is one of my ultimate favorites...very not expensive. Building a snowman...free and great fun...taking pictures of the beautiful white colored outdoors, making snow angels, ice skating ...oh, there are so many things. If you are ever at a loss this coming winter season, just let me know, and I will help you out. I agree with Jennie though, you don't necessarily need to be out in the cold to enjoy Winter...but it is my second favorite season :) Right behind Fall.

Clarification: My problem isn't finding things to do, it's that it's so darn cold while you're DOING them!

Jinx, I'm with you. My problem is that I do not like the sensation of being cold so I struggle to be doing anything outside in the winter.

Hmmm...I'm still not sure what to do to make me more excited about winter. Maybe I should try snowshoeing (I've never done that). I'm not sure about the snowboarding thing though.

Thanks, though, for the suggestions!

Skiing, skiing, skiing. It converted me to loving winter. Before I skied, I HATED the winter. Now I have found snowshoeing and plus I have winter clothes, so things are much better!
